Overview
The Super Visa is a special long-term, multiple-entry visa for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. It allows eligible visitors to stay in Canada for up to five years at a time per entry, with the option to extend their stay by two additional years, and is valid for up to ten years.
Unlike the Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program (PGP), which grants permanent residency but is limited by annual quotas and a lottery system, the Super Visa is available year-round and offers a flexible alternative for family reunification
Why Choose the Super Visa?
Extended Stays: Stay up to 5 years per visit, much longer than the standard 6 months for regular visitor visas.
Multiple Entries: Travel to and from Canada as often as you like within the 10-year validity period.
Family Reunification: Spend more time with your children and grandchildren, participating in family life and milestones.
No Need for Permanent Residency: Ideal for families not selected for the PGP or not ready to commit to PR.
Peace of Mind: Mandatory health insurance ensures access to medical care during your stay
Year-Round Application: No lottery or invitation required-apply any time
2025 Updates: New Insurance Flexibility
International Insurance Accepted: As of January 28, 2025, you can purchase required medical insurance from approved international providers, not just Canadian companies. Policies must be valid for at least one year and cover a minimum of $100,000 for healthcare, hospitalization, and repatriation.
Easier and More Affordable: This change reduces costs and improves access for families worldwide
